universe2go is an innovative audio-visual sky guide designed for astronomical exploration.

The application offers two operational modes:

• Starmap-Mode: Allows the use of universe2go without the Astro-Glasses, providing a basic star mapping experience with limited functionalities.
• Planetarium-Mode: When used with universe2go Astro-Glasses, provides an immersive experience of the night sky through augmented reality overlays combined with audio descriptions.

How does it function?

In conjunction with AR-Astro-Glasses (augmented reality glasses), users can observe the night sky adorned with visible stars and simultaneously receive supplementary information about celestial objects and constellations. This creates a seamless fusion of real-world sky view and virtual graphics and text. The app utilizes your smartphone's sensors to generate precise data corresponding to your gaze point in the sky.

While some comparable starmap applications claim to feature augmented reality, they often fall short due to limitations in smartphone camera capabilities under low-light conditions. universe2go distinguishes itself through:

• An advanced algorithm and heuristics that reliably identify the star you are observing (users are encouraged to compare this accuracy with other apps).
• The constellation displays are rendered at sizes proportional to their apparent size in the sky, enhancing ease of recognition for beginners.
• The application is engaging and interactive, featuring an auto-activated zoom that reveals planets, nebulae, galaxies, satellites, and more—with impressive magnification, including 3D visualizations where applicable, enriching the user experience.

universe2go offers diverse modes for exploring the cosmos:

1. Discovery-Mode: Investigate all 88 official constellations, see connecting lines between stars, and listen to detailed descriptions.
2. Mythology-Mode: Enjoy storytelling inspired by Greek mythology that narrates tales of gods, heroes, beasts, and princesses associated with celestial figures.
3. Deep-Sky-Mode: Access high-quality images of planets, nebulae, star clusters, galaxies, comets, and satellites—many in 3D—some originating from the Hubble Space Telescope, providing an extraordinary view beyond conventional telescopic capabilities.
4. Quiz-Mode: Challenge your knowledge by identifying constellations depicted by universe2go through interactive questions.

The app encompasses over three hours of high-quality audio narration and hundreds of specially processed images. It features the complete Hipparcos star catalog with approximately 120,000 stars and the NGC catalog featuring 7,000 objects.
